Jeremiah Weldon South, Jr., my g-g-grandfather, is the Confederate soldier
involved in this incident. We have heard many conflicting stories about
what happened. Stephen Bowling, the editor of the Jackson Times, was
recently sent a "first person" account concerning this. I saw Bill James
yesterday at the Hazel Green Academy Homecoming and we were talking about
this too. Maybe Stephen can post the account he received to the List.
