Hi Again, Jenny. Had a visit with you a week or so ago discussing
Rainwater-Rayborn connection. Tonight I saw your note re: Casey County Web
Site and the list of connecting families. There are several hits there
again.....small county in the early days so neighbors married neighbors....
My GF was Daniel Francis Rainwater who died in 1912 or thereabouts. GM was
Serena Henson who died 1911. My Mother was the baby of the family and within
a few months with a household full of youngun's DF married again. This time
he married Josie Dye in late 1911 I believe (without looking). I have
nothing on her family and don't know if this was a prior married name or if
she was a Dye in fact. DF then died in 1912 and she gave birth to Ralph
Rainwater after DF passed on......A short time after DF died Josie ( 10 Mar
1875-30 Oct 1945) ran off all the Rainwater kids including my 11 year old
Mother who was taken in by the Jasper family of Casey Co who were school
teachers....A day or so following being ran off the Rainwater farm the
following happened:
I have a document somewhere in my files showing my Uncle Joseph Rainwater,
as a minor, had the local Court appoint a Guardian for him. This Guardian
was an over 21 neighbor who the same day gave his consent for Uncle Joe to
marry. With the issue of the License and the Ceremony being over, the Court
dismissed the Guardianship...all in a matter of 15 minutes. Aunt Iverson
Hodge died in the early 1970's after more than 65 years of marriage. Uncle
Joe died shortly after at age 96 years.
I also see a marriage between a Whitaker and a Rainwater man.
Ann Whitaker married Daniel M. Rainwater Dec 14, 1848. She had consent of
Anderson Compton, a Bro-in-Law, document indicates her parents were
deceased. Pastor was a G.W. Ducil. They had a dau Lucy A Rainwater born Dec
29, 1856; another dau Mary elizabeth born 6 Aug 1859; a dau Sarah Rainwater,
born Aug 22, 1853; Daniel M is buried at New Hope Cemetery West Hiway 80
and there are no dates on the stone. I believe Ann is buried there also with
a stone marked Anna, 27 mar 1829-28 Aug 1898. On my Death/Cemetery list I
also see a Warren Rainwater 7 July 1863-13 Nov 1938 I have marked as son of
Daniel M & Ann Whitaker Rainwater. Warrens' wife is listed as Mary J Morris
Rainwater, 9 July 1865-Jun 12, 1962......I didn't really do a search but
hope this helps......
Best Regards,
Hal
