Here's a little "tidbit" I found interesting. The Garrard family were
Saltmakers. It was actually the first "industy" in Clay Co. I don't know
whether they mined it or got it through evaporation. The 1860 census shows
Daniel Garrard (age 79) as having a real estate value of $20,000 and a
personal value of $121,000. Remember - this was in 1860!!
