Carol, Age has no effect on the real beauty of a woman. Some of
the most beautiful women I have ever seen have been in their
senior yoars. One of the faculty when I first went to boarding
school was what I thought at the time one of the most homely
woman I had ever seen. In her old days she was as beautiful an
old woman asI ever saw.
In THE SUGAR POND AND FRITTER TREE in a story, "The Women
in My Life." in writing it I wanted to mention the woman but I
made the mistake of asking her permission. Many years later when
I mentioned it to her, she said, "Jess, you should not have
asked
me."
