Subject: [KYCLAY-L] JULIUS WEBB'S "KILLING"
Date: Thu, 5 Aug 1999 07:16:56 -0400

The following was in the Mountain Echo Exercps yesturday for a
date in 1900;

A report from Manchester reached here to the effect that Monday
night Julius Webb, who was in jail under a charge of having
murdered Chat Hall and A.Gilbert, while talking to the jailer,
T. C.Cundiff, was shot and instantly killed by an unknown
person. The assassin, by means of a ladder, ascended to the
second story of the jail where he could get sight of Webb. It
will be remembered that some months since Webb was arrested,
tried and held over in a bond of $5,000 for his appearance, and
while he was out on bond he had a difficulty with Gilbert in
which he killed Gilbert and for this he was arrested and
incarcerated.

The story i have heard is that the rifle shot did not kill
Julius Webb although it went through his head. It did partly
destroy his voice box, leaving him with a gravely speach.. The
affair was the cause of quite a bit of discussion. His friends
said that the reason the shot through his head did not kill him
was that he had brains to spare. His enemies said that the
bullet when through empty space in his head, where there were no
brains.
