To all; As I drove down to the mail box today, as is my usual
practice, I pick up any litter that is in the roadway from the
low seat in my little car. At the mailbox I picked up a
crumpled note book page. On it was written in fairly good block
letters, the following words: I love Mishol he is not men to me
Ef you love me I wod Love you. (End of message)

As I read the message, I began to think of what I might have
done if I had been an elementary school teacher. I think I would
have told my young teen-agers something like this: “ I know
there is a rule in this school, that I am required to help
enforce, against the passing of notes in class. However, in the
interest of teaching you good spelling and correct grammar, if
you are compelled to write a love note to someone, if you will
fold it over and close it with a little tape and slip it into a
regular assignment that you hand in. When I grade your other
papers I will read your love note backwards to preserve your
privacy, but I will correct your spelling and grammar. That way
you can redraft the letter so that if you get caught passing it
in class and the teacher reads it to the other students, they
won’t laugh at your poor spelling and bad grammar.”
