I have the following information in my Gilbert File. The following=20
information was submitted by one of William Gilbert's grandsons. It is not=20
documented:=20
Felix Benton Gilbert was born in Ireland in 1754. John Gilbert was born in
Ireland in 1771. These two brothers came to America. They first settled in
North Carolina. I don't know how long they stayed in North Carolina, but
John was a scout in the American Revolution. Felix married Mary Jane
Wallace in 1789 in Wythe Va. I don't think his wife was from Ireland. The
Wallaces lived in England. The oldest child Felix was born in 1790. Our
great-grandfather Wallace was born baout 1803 and married December 13, 1823.
Grandpa (Bagey) Bill Gilbert was born Oct. 5, 1824 and died March 24, 1914.
(Bagey) Bill Gilbert is Jake Gilbert's grandfather.

John Gilbert was married at Barbourville, Ky. in 1804. Collin's HISTORY OF
KENTUCKY gives a good account of him. He was in the Kentucky Legislature
from 1834 to 1838. He died while the legislature was in session in March
1868. The legislature adjourned for a period of mourning. Felix Gilbert
didn't get his name in history but his son, Felix, laid a patent on about
half of the land on Red Bird River.
