Carol, you asked about how to get marriage records from Salt Lake Family History Library. When I was there this is what they had; Each state has rows of books. They are broken down into counties. Then they have eary records of the state that aren't categorized by counties. Some of the books are as follows; Early marriages of Kentucy, Early Death records for different states. There is so much that you can't begin to imagine there were books from that far back.
Then in another building they have Family History's that people have donated. They had so many books in the library they moved the family histories to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. They are located on the 4th floor of that building. They had census books for all the states where you could look up the last name and find where each name was located for that census year. If you get a chance to go it is a great place to do research. Hope this helps with your question. Pattsy D

Holly, I am confused by something you have posted. You have Daniel Smith,
son of Zachariah Smith and Mahala Smith Means Smith as marrying Mary Jane
Eversole, but the book of marriages for Clay County shows that David Smith
married Mary Jane Eversole on Jan 29, 1891. It shows Daniel Smith to have
married Sarah Hubbard on Nov 11, 1900. Is this the same person only he
married twice and his first marriage is listed under the name David? Below
is the 1910 census record for Daniel Smith and I don't see Lida Smith listed
so I'm even more confused. It does list the Zachariah and Hugh you
mentioned, but no Lizza Smith either. Can you clear up some of this
confusion for me?

Hi Linda
Daniel is my G grandpa. His parents are Zachariah Smith b.1822-26
I found him in the 1870 census. Zachariah m. Mahala Means b.1840 (married
1-29-1891) Zachariah was a miner.
Zachariah S/O Paul b.abt1800 and Elizabeth Stewart Smith b.abt1800
Both paul and elizabeth born in N.C. Elizabeth D/O Daniel Stewart N.C.
I've been to manchester with Mom. she remembers Daniel well. he was a mean
man. She took us to where he used to live. People still live in his old
house. There is a cemetery almost in his front yard. Churches use to hold
church services in the cemetery and have a dinner afterwards. He hated to
hear the singing and the preaching. there were lots of tree in this
cemetery. So he chopped the trees down so they wouldn't have shade to sing
under the next year. They did anyway, which made him more upset.
Mary was Daniel's first cousin. I wish I could prove differently.
But This info I have found in Clay co. census.
children of Daniel and Mary married 1-29-1891
Zachariah 1894
Lizza 1895
Hugh 1896
Lida 8-31-1898 d.1944 this is my grandma
Children of daniel and Sarah Hubbard married 11-11-1900
Mitchell 1898
Vinia 1904
Lillie 1906
Alex 1910
Children of mary and May hubbard married ?

I have more on Mary if you like. let me know.

Guilda,
I didn't have any birth/death dates on Nancy, thanks much. How were you able
to get them? You know, if she was born in 1799, she would have been 93 at
her death, or in 1806 she would have been 86. Either way, that's a
surprisingly long life for the 1800's, isn't it?! Do you have any
birth/death dates on David?
Here's the number for the Clay County Genealogical and Historical Society --
606-598-5507. The person I spoke with was Lisa Wombles, she sounded really
nice but busy. Maybe if two of us call for the same marriage record, it
might help. I called about a month ago, I think. I was out of town for two
weeks, got back a week ago Sunday, and I know I didn't call the week I was
packing to leave. So it's been more than a month. I should keep better
records. Don't know, Guilda, maybe we both need keepers.

Cella Goforth anda short family "history".
Onpage 113 is an article written by a fourth grader, Amanda Lane Baker about
George Washington Goforth.
I could make copies and mail them to you if you want. Just send me a mailing

Hello,
There is a Hooker Cemetery in Clay County, Ky., and there are alot of
Hooker's buried there. I am trying to get in touch with the descendants of
the Hooker's who are buried there. Most of the Hooker graves have been
decorated recently so it seems like there has to be someone still alive from
their families who are doing the decorating. Hooker Cemetery is on Hooker
Cemetery Road and it is not too far from the Engine Cemetery.
My Hooker family came from Clay County, Ky. so I am trying to make a
connection with other Hooker descendants from that area.
Thank you,

Subject: [KYCLAY] Native American Ancestry
Recently, a new member asked about trying to prove her ancestry of Cherokee
Bloodlines in Southeastern, KY Counties.
The Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Shawnee were the three major tribes that
influenced Kentucky. Cherokee continued to live after 1754 in the
southeastern portion of the state. Some of the early settlers did intermarry
with these Native Americans.
Very few records can be found for Native Americans in Kentucky because:
There were/are no Native American reservations in Kentucky.
Since there were no tribes living within the state, the government of
Kentucky did not keep records of the tribes.
Due to the prejudices of the day, Native Americans chose not to disclose
their heritage in public documents. This is why many people have difficulty
in finding evidence of Native American ancestry in census records
Agencies that may be helpful to you in your research:
Cherokee Nation, P. O. Box 948, Tahlequah, OK 74465

One other major source is that of family research in Clay, Leslie, Perry,
Harlan, Knox, Letcher Counties that may be in Public Libraries where native
americans are listed in the family trees of the research.
