Subject: Civil War Pension File, Robert Burns, Surnames Dixon, Stillings, Hoskins
Date: Wed, 7 Sep 2005 08:01:12 -0400

I received application for pension files for Robert 'Cody' Burns, filed by
his Harriet Dixon Burns. Harriet Dixon is my gg-grandmother. She had two
children with Silas Hoskins, Leander & Robert Hoskins. Robert is my
g-grandfather.

There is some interesting information that may be of help to others
including Stillings & Bowling. I am going to type some excerpts from this
file that maybe others on the list would be interested. I can not always
make out some of the had writing. Spelling is as written in deposition.

Deposition C
Case of Harriet Burns, No. 656465

On this 27th day of Aug, 1902, at Green Mount, county of Laurel, State of KY
before me Percy S. Crown, a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions,
personally appeared JOHN L. STILLINGS, M.D., who being by me first duly
sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this
special examination of aforesaid claim for pension, deposes and says:

My age is 33 years. Occupation Physician & Surgeon - Graduate University of
Louisville Class of '93. I have known HARRIET BURNS since about 1893. She
has a good reputation in this community since that time.

She was recognized as widow of ROBT. BURNS, whom I had known.

I know nothing of legality of this marriage, or facts as to previous
marriages & death. HARRIET BURNS died leaving two grown children ROBT &
LEE HOSKINS, but none had any children by BURNS as I have always understood.
HARRIET BURNS died on or about Aug 19 - 1902. I saw her about a week before
death, and attended her burial on the evening of August 20th, 1902. The
exact hour of death I do not know, but death was during night of Tuesday,
Aug 19th as I understood. She owned a little home place of about 40 acres
as I understand - ...

Have heard this read, fully understand your question and am correctly
recorded.
