In 1880 Lawrence Co., Mo. Census there is a W. R. Stockton, age 16, b. Mo., father & mother b. Tenn. living with Rube (Reuben) Fair (Fare) age 53, b. Tenn, father b. Tenn., mother b. Il. and Ann, age 52, b. Tenn. father & mother b. Tenn. and their children, Narcissus, Frank, & Steven. This Stockton is believed to be the son of Thomas and Nancy Fare Stockton who ran away to live with his uncle because he didn't like Bolin Eden, 2nd husband of his mother.
I was later given the information that this William is Thomas William which would discredit the above informtion. Note: With the information from the following census it would seem that the W.R. Stockton could well be Thomas William.

Thomas Stockton is said to be buried at Potter's Cem. near Jenkins, MO. However, there is no trace of a stone for him. The cem. has been vandalized so many times that there is a high pile of broken stones piled by a tree.

Book on State of Missouri-Goodspeeds?
Mountain Township-The first settlers were Thomas Carney, William McKiney, Thomas Stockton, Edward Stubblefield, George Wilson, Rev. Joesph Doty and Doty. I have not been in the neighborhood where they used to live for a long time. I suppose though the most of their dwellings, that they built many years ago to protect their families from the summer's sun and the winter, still stand, and the fields they redeemed from the wilderness by their industry are now waving with grain. Mountain Township is well watered, has good timber, excellent range and a good deal of the very best of lands; one fine mill.
This is a handwritten document and hard to read

I've heard the same story about about the one son running away because he didn't like his step-dad.
>From Retha Hadlow in information she had received
Bolin Eden
His ancestor came from Ireland.
He fought in three wars
He was crippled from wounds he suffered in war
He was a short man, little more than five foot tall, very short in stature
He had bright red hair and blue eyes
His great granddaughter said her grandmother had red hair and blue eyes, just like her father, Bolen Eden.
This daughter was Sally Ann Eden who married William Henson.
It was said that Bolin Eden was a mean man, but was really good to his children, and put his family first.
I can't seem to find anything on Rube Fare right now but will keep looking.
Betty
