The town of NEW is in Owen Co. It is about 3 miles east of Monterey. The
1883 Atlas shows W.J. NEW residing at this place on the map where later
there was the village of NEW, so the village apparently was named for the
family.
NEW is about 3 miles west of the Eagle Creek watershed. W.J. NEW was a
farmer with 120 acres, was born in Gallatin Co., KY and came to Owen Co. in
1857 (1883 Atlas).
Owen Co. marriages:
NEW, Greenberry M. m. Mahala BAKER 13 Dec 1827
NEW, Michael m. Susanna SMITH 24 April 1820
NEW, Nancy m. William SPANGLER/SPRANGLER 12 May 1821
Marriages of residents living in the area of present Owen Co. before its
formation in 1819 are found in the records of Scott, Franklin, Pendleton and
Gallatin counties. Bear in mind the Owen Co. area was at one time Woodford
County, and Woodford was formed from Fayette County.
Gallatin Co. marriage
NEW, Jethro m. Agnes THOMAS, widow, September 23, 1813. Bond: Wm HARROD.
Min: William MORGAN
(Agnes THOMAS' maiden name was MADDOX. She was the sister of my ancestor,
David MADDOX. This family lived in north central Owen Co.)
