Looking for any information or circumstances surrounding the death of
Sylvanus Butler. Sylvanus Butler resided in Grant County Kentucky until
1866. Sylvanus was the Grandson of Ignatious (aka Ignatius) Butler and
Delilah (?)Hendrix. He was born ion May 5, 1817 in Bath County to Nathan
Butler and Mary DAVIS. Sylvanus married Margaret Ann Fletcher in Bath
County on December 5, 1838. They moved to Grant County, KY either in 1851
or 1852.

His oldest daughter Lydia, born 1840, married William G. ROZELL, in Grant
County on or about February 23, 1857, subsequently married John HENDRIX on
July 22, 1860 at the home of GW Franks in Grant County. Her younger sister
Mary Butler born 1841 married A.C. ABERNATHY in Grant County in 1860.
Other daughters include Catharine, Abigail, and Carn. His sons were
William Odd BUTLER who married Martha HENDRIX IN 1867. Nathan P. BUTLER.
Silas R. BUTLER married Maria F. McATEE in 1882. Sylvanus Wayne and
Grandison Breckenridge (AKA Grand). Sylvanus BUTLER's youngest surviving
son Thomas Nicholas Butler was born in 1866 and married Minnie DAUGHERTY in
1888.

Sylvanus and Margaret lived on a farm bordering Arnold's Creek from
1855-1866(9). One of their neighbors was his sister Artemecia and
brother-in-law Silas ROGERS. Sylvanus lost his land in a court case and
may have migrated to Missouri. He could not be located in the spring of
1869 by the Grant County Sheriff. The family does not appear in the Grant
County 1870 Census. The family re- appears in Grant County, Kentucky
records in 1882. Family Legend has it that Sylvanus died on a wagon train trip to or from Missouri.

Margaret Ann Fletcher Butler is buried at Mt. Zion under her maiden name. She died in July 1896 at a farm house on Warsaw road. Silas ROGERS died in Arkansas, probably Sharp County, sometime before 1894.
ROGERS seemed to be very close to Sylvanus and Margaret Ann. It is
possible that they lived in the area of Missouri near Sharp County, AR.

Nothing more is known about Sylvanus. A descendant of Grandison stated that
Sylvanus might be buried near Sharpsburg, KY. Any information would be
appreciated. I would particularly like to know the circumstances
surrounding his death.
