HI,
I am looking for any an all information regarding the Ponder family that
lived in Grant Co. May have been as early as 1832 or 1833. I found in the
1850 KY census of Williamstown, Grant co. one Sarah Ponder (widow) and her
four children, James F, Priscilla, Martha Ann, and Thomas. M.
I have since been informed of a Nathaniel Ponder who died on or about May
13, 1839 and had a "Will" which I now have a copy of. The only family
member mentioned is his wife Sally or Sarah. The birth years of each of the
children shown in the 1850 census answer why the children were not included
in the will for the births were 1830, 1833, 1835, and 1836. They were all
much to young to have had a say.
In 1867 James F. Ponder Married Zelica Foster of Owen co.KY, in
Williamstown KY Grant co. and raised their family of 5 children in
Downingsville. My grandfather Nathan was the second child and he had told
his son Harold my father that he had been born in Sparta KY Grant Co. Which
I have since learned was a small town and now is almost gone from the map.
I was there in 2000 and looked to me like the speed way has taken most of
it. Downingsville has long been gone and what is left has been taken in to
Williamstown. I have James full Civil War military records. Very
interesting reading. But no clue as yet to his Father or to his Mothers
maiden name.
Priscilla the first daughter never married as she had a horrible accident
which resulted in her untimely death on November 11, 1857.
Martha Ann third child second daughter married Patrick Bannon and they
lived in Williamstown. Believe they had two children.
Thomas M second son and fourth child married 1st Massa Ann Carlton they had
one daughter Estella. Massa Ann died and Thomas married 2nd Sarah
Langsdale. Thomas M. to the best of my knowledge lived and died in
Gallatin, Warsaw Co.KY.
Sarah their mother has yet to be verified. Need a death certificate if
available. Believe she was buried some place in Grant County. Her maiden
name may have been Williams but has not been verified.
Any one with any knowledge to this family I would sure appreciate. I can
always be reached here on the email. .
