John Wakefield Cox, retired building contractor and carpenter, died Monday, March 9th [1953] 8:45 p. m. at his home in Greensburg at the age of 87. The son of the late James A. Cox and Mrs. Elizabeth Burton Cox, he was born in Green County August 8, 1865. He was a member of the Greensburg Presbyterian Church. He was united in marriage to Miss Sallie McVicker Shreves, March 5, 1902. She preceded him in death June 26, 1913. To this union two daughters and one son were born. Surviving are Mrs. V. M. Wentz, Chicago, IL., and Mrs. Twyman Marshall, Greensburg. He later united in marriage to Miss Ethel Hobson Hubbard on September 29, 1914. She preceded him in death July 20, 1945. To this union one son was born, Henry A. Cox, Louisville, who survives. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Flora Hicks, Greensburg; 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday by Rev. V. A. Jones at the Greensburg!
Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Greensburg cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Montgomery, Hugh Howell, Milton H. Montgomery, William Hicks, Clifford Blakeman, Bob Taylor Blakeman.
