Subject: [KyGreenu] George W. and Robert J. DOUGLAS: Greenup County Land Sales while in Missouri, 1844
Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 15:00:14 -0400
Dear Subscribers to the Greenup County, Kentucky Mailing List,
There were two DOUGLASes who moved from Greenup County, Kentucky to
Missouri by 1844, and sold some Greenup County land while in Missouri. I
found this information while reading Greenup County Deed Book H, on my
last research trip to Greenup County.
George W. DOUGLAS and his wife Jane, and Robert J. DOUGLAS and his wife
Hannah, sold a tract of land located in Greenup County, Kentucky to
Robinson M. BIGGS, 11 Sep 1844, as recorded in Greenup County Deed Book
H, page 246. Next to the "BIGGS Tract" was a tract that they sold to
James E. NICHOLS. I have not yet tried to locate where this acreage was
situated in Greenup County. I should have taken note of that when I
copied the information from the Deed Book.
What makes these two land sales interesting is that George W. DOUGLAS
and Robert J. DOUGLAS were residents of Clay County, Missouri at the
time!
If anyone knows who the parents of these two DOUGLASes were, please
contact me. I am a descendant of DOUGLASes who lived in Greenup County,
beginning about 1812 or so. My DOUGLAS line was not featured with its
own section in ~History of Greenup County, Kentucky~ by Nina Mitchell
Biggs. Yet, my fourth-great grandmother Rebecca DOUGLAS was mentioned in
Ms. Biggs's book.
Thank you for any information or suggestions you may have. I have been
researching the people of Greenup County for seven years, in an effort
to find the parents of my third-great grandfather William COOPER, who
married Martha Ann BARNEY, 6 may 1846, in Greenup County. Martha Ann
BARNEY was a twin daughter of Rebecca DOUGLAS and Squire BARNEY.
Thanks Again,
Randal W. Cooper
