Subject: [KYHICKMA] Hickman County - Vital Statistics Records - Births - 1852-1860 - Part 10
Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 18:50:53 -0500
My friends -
Today, we are returning to our review of the Hickman County Vital
Statistics birth records for the period 1852-1860. In the prior 9 segments,
we have worked our way into the surnames which begin with the letter "C",a
nd we will continue with more of those in this segment.
Subscribers to the lists which I host can request the full dataset(which
usually includes the date of birth, whether male or female if not obvious,
the name of the father and maiden name of the mother, and rarely in
Hickman, the actual location in the County where the birth occurred) for an
individual in the listing below by sending a request to me for that
information. Your continuing help in not resending this entire message back
to me with your request is greatly appreciated.
Non-subscriber and PML requests will be filled only if time permits.
On another matter, it has been brought to my attention by several of our
subscribers that the Forrest Pogue Special Collections Library at Murray
State University has removed their genealogy book collection from the large
reading room in which it has been housed for many years, and placed them in
the area of the "stacks" on the other side of the building. The stack area
has floor to ceiling racks and the rows between these racks are narrow and
poorly lit. In addition, there is only a single table available in that
area at which to sit down. I have been in the stacks at Pogue and they are
difficult to use. It is my understanding that the large room in which the
collection was held for many years is now full of periodicals. I would urge
anyone who uses the Pogue facility in the future to express their
displeasure with this decision of the administration to move these
genealogical works. I will obtain their snail mail address in the near
future, and may suggest a letter writing effort on the part of all of us. I
will keep you posted on this matter.
