I have received copies of the original of these documents from the Hickman
County Clerk and have transcribed them below. I do not have any evidence to
suggest this Davis family has any connection with Noah F. Davis, the subject
of my research.

Alexander Caldwell and Stephen Hanna vs. Samuel Davis
Alexander Caldwell and Stephen Hanna, Merchants trading under the name of
Caldwell & Hanna, state that Samuel Davis, deceased, purchased $137.00 worth
of merchandise, and since that time has departed this life, and that Mary Ann
Davis has asked to be made a defendant to this bill, and that he has left as
his heirs, …late Davis; Sarah C. Smith, late Davis, and Joseph Smith, her
husband; Dolinda P. Jopling, late Davis, and Chesley P. Jopling, her husband;
Elizabeth Davis. Samuel Davis and Lyddia Davis, the said defendant, being
entirely insolvent, but having one house and two lots in the Town of Clinton,
and no other estate, Caldwell & Hanna pray that the lots and house be sold
and the proceeds used to pay the above bill.

We command the Sheriff to summon Mary Ann Davis, Administrator of Samuel
Davis, deceased, Susan Tarpley, late Davis; Sarah C.Smith, late Davis, and
Joseph Smith, her husband; Dolinda P. Jopling, late Davis, and Chesley
Jopling, her husband; Elizabeth Davis, Samuel Davis and Lyddia Davis, infant
heirs of the Decendent, to appear before the Judge on the first day of their
next April Term, to answer a bill against them by Alexander Caldwell and
Stephen Hanna. Witness my hand this 10th day of February 1832.

Executed on Mary Ann Davis, Susan Tarpley, Sarah C. Smith, Joseph Smith,
Elizabeth Davis, Lyddia Davis. Dolinda Jopling and Chesley Jopling live in
Virginia, this March 6th 1832.

Ellison A. Daniel, Guardian ad litem for Lyddia Davis and Samuel Davis,
infant heirs of Samuel Davis, deceased, states that he knows nothing of the
matter and calls for full proof.

Robert Turner answer the bills against the heirs of Samuel Davis, Deceased
states that he knows nothing of the justness of the claim, but in relation to
Lot No. 4 mentioned in the bill, states that in 1829, he purchased at public
sale from the Trustees of the Town of Clinton, the above Lot, and executed a
promissory note with James Turner as his security for the sum of $56.00, and
that the Trustees executed a bond for the title of the lot, with the
condition that Davis was to pay the original purchase money for the lot, and
upon that event, the Trustees would issue him a legal title. He never paid
any of this sum, and he prays that this answer be taken as a cross bill
against the Trustees and that the lot be sold to pay the purchase money due.

Trustees of Clinton deed to Davis and heirs. This indenture made and entered
into this 7th day of May 1831 between the undersigned Trustees of the Town of
Clinton Hickman County, Kentucky of the one part and Mary Ann Davis, widow,
and Joseph Smith and Sarah his wife, late Sarah Davis, Chesley
Jossling/Jopling? and Dolinda P. his wife late Dolinda P. Davis, Elizabeth
Davis, Samuel Davis, Lyddia Davis and Susan Tarpley late Susan Davis, heirs
of Samuel Davis, dec’d of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Trustees
for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty seven dollars do them in hand
paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted, bargained and
sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell to the said party of
the second part their heirs and assigns a certain lot or parcel of ground
situate lying and being in the Town, County and State afor’d, known and
designated on the plan of said town by its [illegible] to wit, then do have
and to hold the said lot or parcel of ground with all and singulars and
appurtenances to the said party of the second part their heirs or assigns
forever. In testimony whereof the said Trustees have hereunto set their hands
the day and date above written.

hereby certify that the within deed from the undersigned Trustees of the Town
of Clinton to Mary Ann Davis, widow, and Joseph Smith and Sarah his wife,
late Sarah Davis, Chesley A. Jopling and Dolinda P. his wife late Dolinda P.
Davis, Elizabeth Davis, Samuel Davis, Lyddia Davis and Susan Tarply late
Susan Davis was on the 7th day of Jay 1831 produced to me in my office and
acknowledged by the said Trustees to be their acts and deed to the purposes
therein mentioned and thereupon do same together with this certificate are
truly recorded in my office in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand
