Mary,

There are lots of options and lots of questions. Do you know what religion
she was? The Lousiville Catholic Cemetery System has wonderful records and
their staff is very helpful for a nominal photocopying fee. If this is
applicable, they will list lots of information including the undertaker.
There were many undertakers in business back then. Contact the Louisville
Public Library (5th and York) Reference Desk and see if they will photocopy
the funeral director/funeral home pages out of the 1947 Louisville
telephone directory for you. If not, try appealing for help to someone on
the list who lives in Louisville and mentions going to the library. I live
in Texas.

The Courier-Journal has been around since probably the 1800's so it was
definitely in print then. I'm not sure what other papers were around then.
The Public Library listed above also has the old newspapers on microformat.
It would be worth a phone call and/or a visit if you live close enough.

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Debbie
