A PLEASANT PARTY (see announcement Sept. 30, 1870)
The hop given at the United States Hotel last night in honor of Mr. And
Mrs. Thomas O. HALL, who were married a day or two ago, was a most
pleasant affair-an affair which afforded no little enjoyment to those who
were in attendance. The Ladies' parlor of the hotel presented a very gay
scene from half-past 9 until long after midnight. No sleep till morn when
youth and beauty meet to chase the glowing hours with flying feet was the
order of the day, and the dancing was accordingly kept up until a late
hour. At about twelve o'clock the gay and festive party set down to a
sumptuous collation furnished by Messrs. BURTON and STOCKTON, the
proprietors of the hotel, after which the dancing was resumed. It was a
most enjoyable occasion.

Monday Morning, October 10, 1870
UNION OF LOUISVILLE AND BROOKLYN
The New York Sun of the 7th inst., under the above caption, says: "Mr.
William D. BARBER, the son of one of the wealthiest citizens of Brooklyn
and one of our best known society men, was married in the Presbyterian
church in Louisville, Ky., last evening, to Miss Maggie McFARLANE,
daughter of one of the largest tobacco dealers of that city, and one of
the most celebrated Southern belles. The wedding was strictly private,
none but the near relatives of both parties being present, and the bride,
a piquante brunette, was simply attired in a traveling suit of lavender
silk. There was no reception, the happy pair starting off at once on a
tour to Niagara. They will visit Brooklyn on their return, where a grand
reception will be given in the palatial residence of the groom's father.
The presents were many and costly, one of them being a necklace of
diamonds and pearls, presented by the groom's father, and valued at
$8,000."

A BRILLIANT WEDDING
The spacious halls of the Louisville Hotel were the scene of a brilliant
wedding last evening. The parties are both well-known in the city. The
groom was Mr. R. E. CROSS, of the firm of Davis, Cross & Co., and the
bride, Mrs. Mary KEAN, daughter-in-law of M. KEAN, Esq., and niece to
Phillip JUDGE, Esq., a lady celebrated for her beauty and social worth.
The nuptial ceremony was performed by Bishop McCLOSKY, in presence of a
distinguished company. After the services the party partook of a
delightful entertainment, embracing wine, music and dancing. The happy
couple set out on the midnight Short-line train for a bridal tour in
Canada, carrying with them the congratulations of a very large circle of
friends.

of the fair bride in Louisville, her former place of residence, will
rejoice at her happiness in having found so envied a lot. The church (St.
Bartholomew's) was filled to overflowing with the elite of Columbus, and
there was a spontaneous buzz of admiration as the bridal party stood
before the richly decorated altar to ask God's blessing upon their vows.
"Hail love, first love, thou word that seems all bliss!
The sparkling ocean of all time's blessedness."
