I was curious as to what information I could find on line regarding a marriage bond. Until reading the comments posted I had never heard of them.

I can usually count on Google.com to have some reference. Sure enough, there was a link to the Learning Center at Genealogy.com. This is their definition:

A marriage bond is a document obtained by an engaged couple prior to their marriage. It affirmed that there was no moral or legal reason why the couple could not be married.
In addition, the man affirmed that he would be able to support himself and his new bride.

Every time I learn a new fact like this, I print the information and keep a file that I can reference.
