Dear Pat,
Thank you for that information. I must have been there many times with my
mother. I had forgotten the "Dry Goods" title, but now I recall it.
Apparently, Kaufman's and I left Louisville about the same time.

Henry Kaufman, a local retail clerk, was its founder. In 1883 Benjamin

store until 1908. In 1925, after extensive interior renovation, the concern
was touted in its grand reopening as Louisville's newest department store.
Today, the exterior facade of the 1903 building may be viewed as part of the
eastern wall of the Galleria shopping complex. At its height in the late
1950s, Kaufman's was one of Louisville's finest department
