I wonder if anyone on the list is familiar with the old location of the
Spring Creek Church of Christ in Graves County. Several of my ancestors
are buried at the current church cemetery, located I believe at a
crossroads north of Mayfield called "Dogwood" on some maps.
But I also have ancestors buried at the location of the old church
cemetery, which is no longer on a maintained road. An elderly cousin, now
dead, took my father an I out there eight years ago. We crawled the car
through old muddy paths and a roadway that's no longer maintained, and you
could see where the trees had grown up through a more ancient roadway. The
cemetery was in a growth of trees, and I believe someone was putting in an
orchard nearby. We found the cemetery, some old graves were marked, many
were not -- said to have been marked with planted trees.
This elderly cousin, Tom Weaver of Mayfield, pointed out to us the places
where various persons lived. It was odd to think that this forgotten
little path was once a community in itself. But when I later looked at a
map, it had nothing on it that would help me put an "X" approximately where
the cemetery was. I think we came out on "Cecil Adams Road."
I'd like to be able to get the location of this cemetery marked on a map,
so that it's location is not lost.
