Dear listers: I have some small amount of information which may be of
interest to a couple of people, maybe more. Married to Clapps were many
Thomas daughters. One, Mary Catherine* married my husband's
ggrandfather, James Marshall Clapp and they have many descendants. On
the 1870 census I have in Fancy Farm, Ky the following:
88/89 Thomas, William 49 M W Farmer Personal property:350 born KY
Sarah M. 41 F W keeping house value of
r.e. 560 born AL
William S. 21 M W works on farm pers.prop.

From a ms compiled by Debbie L. Moore on Apr 14 1983 the following:
"Jackson Thomas b TN about 1815/1818 m. Elizabeth Watson, parents of 3
daughters and sons (sic) probably meant to say 'married sons' ) of Adam
G. Clapp.
William Thomas b about 1822 m Sarah Snow DAUGHTER OF WM. & MARY CLAPP.
See 1850-1860-1870 census. Parents of Aunt Mary Catherine Thomas
Clapp." If Debbie Moore ( the daughter of Adam J. (Buck) Clapp ( born
Graves Co. Oct 16 1866 died apr 18, 1957) is correct that would solve
the msytery of Sarah M. (instead of A.) Snow, a female with 560. in
r.e. could be a widow of a Snow. Her first child with William Thomas
was born when she was 20, so she would have been a very young widow.
Anyone have anything to add? I am off Friday to the FHL to look at the
1850 and 1860 census. This ms also has a full list of Clapps on the
census records from 1820 to 1880 in Union County, IL. the descendants of
Adam Clapp, born 1754 in Orange/Guilford County, NC. who migrated from
TN to IL in 1807. I haven't extracted the IL portion of this hand
written ms but if anyone is interested I will post it. Groan! I need to
extract it anyway. Obviously I missed the Sarah M. Snow connection. I
have extracted the Graves County narrative of this ms. if anyone is
interested. How accurate this is I can't guarantee but since Debbie
Moore was born in Graves County in 1905 and her father Adam (Buck) Clapp
died in 1957 she may well know a lot about this line. Dorothy Austin a
30 year Clapp researcher has told me she knew her. Hope this helps
someone. Kitty Hunt
