Subject: [KYJP] Jackson Purchase Vignettes # 5 - Marshall Co. - John Minter, Jr.
Date: Thu, 05 Apr 2001 20:05:30 -0500
My friends -
Today, I am bringing to you another in the JP Vignettes series of bios from
the old "mug books" and other sources from the 19th century.
Today's bio is that of John Minter, Jr. of Marshall County, and it can be
found below.
Earlier today, I reported the good news that the microfilming of the Graves
County Circuit Court Order Books has been completed by the KY Archives, and
I indicated that I was working with the Archives on getting a time frame
for a set of those films to be sent to me. I have now been told that they
will be shipped out tomorrow, so, if that occurs, I should have them in
hand by the end of next week. For those working in Graves County, these
will be a great asset. I will be discussing our every-name indexing project
for these books with our volunteer group over the next few days.
As is customary, there will be no data posts per se tomorrow or on the
weekend. However, I will be returning - probably tomorrow if time permits -
with a different and special records offering that may be useful to some of
you with Revolutionary War - or suspected RW - ancestors.
-B

JP Vignettes # 5 - Marshall County - John Minter Jr.
"John Minter, Jr. was born in this county, February 21, 1855. He was reared
to farm work and attended the Benton Academy, where he completed his course
of study, and for sometime thereafter was engaged in teaching school in
winter and working on the farm during the summer season. Soon after
becoming of age he opened with a limited capital a confectionery
establishment in Benton, which has been, from time to time, enlarged, and
other lines of goods added as his means would justify. He now carries a
heavy stock of general goods and enjoys a flourishing trade.November 15,
1878, Mr. Minter was appointed postmaster at this place and has since
served in that capacity. He is a staunch Republican."
