Subject: [KYJP] History of the Census Publication

My friends -

There has been some discussion on several other lists about a fairly new
publication from the Department of the Census on the history of the census
from 1790 through 2000. The Census bureau has been giving copies of this
publication away, at least temporarily(it is really a 147 page book,
printed on one side), and now they have placed a PDF version of the entire
work online.

This resource gives the instructions to the enumerator for each census
year, the information on the enabling legislation and who was responsible
for the administration of taking the census - lots of good information.
Since this is our "book day", I thought I would pass this one onto you myself.

You can find the book here: http://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/pol02-ma.pdf

You will need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this file, but that
is a very small - and free - download from the Adobe folks at www.adobe.com
- it is good to have this reader available in any event, as many documents
these days are becoming available in PDF(portable document file) format.
