Subject: Miscellaneous Files - 1840 Census - Instructions to Marshals & Assistant Marshals
Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 14:46:55 -0500

My friends -

I had hoped to have this file ready for distribution yesterday, but events
conspired to prevent me from getting it finished. I completed it today and
will use it as our first posting of the week.

Some time ago, I converted and offered the set of instructions given to the
marshals and assistant marshals for the taking of the census in 1850. It
was a very popular item, and I will continue, from time to time, to offer
the instructions for the various census years which were sent to the
authority charged with the actual execution of the census enumeration.
Today's file contains the instructions for the 1840 census. It also
contains portions of the enabling Congressional legislation. It is a
lengthy document and will print to about 14 pages if 12 point type,
depending on the font used.

Subscribers to the JP List can obtain the file by sending a request
directly to me. Please ask for the "1840 Census File". The file is
available in rich text format(RTF) and Adobe Acrobat PDF format. The file
will be sent as an RTF attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is
specified. The file is not available in plain text format, nor can it be
sent in the body of an e-mail message.

Tomorrow, we will finish up with the DDD Schedules, as McCracken County is
the only county left which I have not yet posted.
