My attention was drawn to your post for 2 reasons: first, I'm from Springfield. Second, someone down the line in my husband's family married a Wm Kurfiss who died in 1932. Perhaps he was related to your Mabel...I realize it was her husband you're wanting to get information about anyway. Have you had any luck with his death certificate? (Sorry, but Sangamon Co is now charging a lot for any of these documents compared to when I first started about 13 years ago.)
