James Dairl Gibson

James Dairl Gibson, age 68, of Pinetop, passed away September 27, 2008, at his home. He was born in May, Ky., on September 21, 1940 to Tandy "Bud" Gibson and Alpha Vance Gibson.
He was preceded in death by mother; 3 brothers: Bennet R., Joseph and Birten G. "Art" Gibson; nephew: Shane Everidge.
He is survived by his wife: Anna Gibson; father: Tandy "Bud" Gibson; daughter: Jessica (Daniel) Campbell; son: James Tyler Gibson; brothers: Doug (Joanne) Gibson, Jerry (Debbie) Gibson and David (Elva) Gibson; sisters: Sally (Gerald) Everidge and Virginia Sue Amburgey; host of family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel with LC Slone and Glenn Noe officiating. Burial followed at the Bud Gibson Cemetery at Pinetop under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services of Hindman.

Kermit Howell

Kermit Howell, age 64 of Beaver, passed away Sept. 28, 2008, at home. He was born August 12, 1944, at Pikeville, Ky., the son of the late Jeff and Phena Adkins Howell. He was a Disabled Gas Company employee and the husband of Maylou Eplin Howell.
He is survived by 3 sons: Kermit Lee Howell, Elkhorn City, Ky., Christopher Howell, Shelby Joe Howell, both of Beaver, Ky., 4 daughters: Jamie Collins, Holly Howell, McDowell, April Howell, Diandra Howell, Beaver, Ky.; 1 brother: Willie Howell, Ohio; 2 sisters: Melissa Martin, Grayson, Ky., Phyllis Coleman, Somerset, Ky. Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, MacKenzie, Allison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Levi, Howell, Tracy Howell, Buford Howell, Holly Bea Sterling, Flora Sue McQuen, Geneva Hunter.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church at Teaberry with Ministers of Old Regular Baptist officiating. Burial followed at the Howell Family Cemetery at Branham Creek at Galveston, Ky., under the direction of the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Hindman.

Frankie Catherine Slone, age 57 of Mallie, passed away September 30, 2008, at the Hazard ARH. She was born September 9, 1951, in Knott County, the daughter of the late Leslie & Alvertie Slone. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Denzil Slone.

Susie Shepherd Slone, age 72 of Stamping Ground, formerly of Knott County, passed away September 25, 2008, at home. She was born May 18, 1936, in Perry County, the daughter of the late Kilce & Nancy Shepherd. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Obrean Slone.
She is survived by 5 sons: James Shepherd, Mike Slone & Tommy Slone all of Georgetown, Ky., Klice Slone of Garner, & Michael Wayne Slone of Lagrange, Ky.; 5 daughters: Brenda Star Watson of Litt Carr, Eunice Brown, Twyla Kay Slone & Angela Slone all of Georgetown, Ky., & Amy Smith of Garner; 1 brother: Bill Shepherd of Carrie; 4 sisters: Lillie, Molly, Janie & Elizabeth; 13 grandchildren: Ella, Sherry, Twyla, Brenda, Diana, Kayla, Darrell, Monica, Amy, Angela, Carla, Michael & Heather; 24 great grandchildren.

*George was born to Joe Manuel Smith and Etta Smith of Justel on December 23rd, 1919. He peacefully left this world after a battle with heart disease.
While serving our Country during World War II, he was recognized as a successful "Medic" and was honorably discharged from the Medical Department of the United States Army in 1945. These services were rendered at the 110th Station Hospital. Shortly after his return, he married Helen Virginia Steffey and later became the proud father of Pauletta Smith. George always valued true love and family life, and remained married to Helen 59 plus years. He followed his daughter's successful music career, until poor health prevented him from doing so.
Many people will remember George from the Prestonsburg Bargain Store where he and his wife worked most of their lives together. George ended his career as a extremely successful sales person, recognized throughout our southeastern states.
In addition to his loyalty to our country, he was also a very faithful and loyal husband and father with excellent moral standards.
On April 14, 2008 George made the most important decision of his life. Pastor Rick Kelly baptized George at the Prestonsburg Church of Christ.
He left behind his true and loving wife, Helen Smith; his one and only daughter, Pauletta Smith; his extended family- Daughter, Sheila Kay Steffey Horton, and husband Frank E. Horton of East Tn., Grandson, Jason A. Stumbo and fiancée, Katie Clark of Oh., and granddaughter, Amada K. Stumbo Reed and husband Joseph Kyle Reed of Elizabethtown, Ky., brother Freddie Smith and Family of Columbus, Oh., and Sister Edith Calhoun of Fort Wayne, Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Etta Smith; brothers; John Paul, Frank and Walter Smith; his sisters; Suda Wallace, Cindy Osborne, Verily Montgomery, Josie McKerrel, Betty Farley, and Ruth Dillion.
