PATRICIA ANN GIBSON SNYDER, 62, of Vero Beach, Florida and formerly of Knox
County, died July 23, 2000 in Palm Bay, Florida after a prolonged illness.
Patricia married Ralph Stewart on June 3, 1955 and later she married Robert
Snyder on July 30, 1977 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Snyder of Vero Beach, Florida; her
four children, Michael Stewart of Corbin, Steve Stewart of Artemus, Amy
Stewart and Andra Pylant, both of Vero Beach, Florida; four grandchildren;
her loving mother, Amy Gibson West and husband Witt of Artemus; her sister,
Janice Vokurka of Bowling Green.
Memorial services were held on Monday, July 31, 2000 in the Trinity Episcopal
Church in Vero Beach, Florida.

RONNIE LEE COX, 59, of Bryants Store, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2000 in
the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was a son of the
late Jess and Lillie Davis Cox born on March 11, 1941 in Anchor, Kentucky. He
was a retired coal miner. In 1963, he united in marriage with Virginia Saylor
and to this union two children were born. Later, on March 26, 1984, he united
in marriage with Lynn Miller and to this union one child was born.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Miller Cox of Bryants Store; three children,
Roxanne Ledbetter and husband Kirk of Douglasville, Ga., Rhonda Lee Cecil of
Calhoun, Ga. and Katrina Lynn Cox of Bryants Store; four sisters, Anna
Scroggins and husband David and Helen Jewell and husband Paul, all of
Greenroad, Bonnie Blair and husband Harold of Hendersonville, Tenn. and
Charlotte Grove and husband Ed of Ashland City, Tenn.; four grandchildren;
among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home
Thursday, August 3 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tommy Frazier and the Rev.
Sylvester Dunn officiating. He was laid to rest in the Powers Cemetery.
Knox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EDWARD HAMMONS, Jr., 76, of Barbourville, was born on January 25, 1924 in
Hazard to the late Edward Hammons Sr. and Mae Fortney Hammons. He died at his
residence Monday, July 31, 2000.
He was a member of the Senior Usher at the East Barbourville Baptist Church.
He was a retired commercial carrier truck driver for the Commercial Carriers
Company in Detroit, Mich. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War
II, having served as a technician fifth grade battery A 131st Anti Aircraft
Artillery Gun Battalion. He served his country in Northern France, Rhineland
and Central Europe. On November 23, 1947 he united in marriage to Mary Ruth
Helton and to this union a son and two daughters were born.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Helton Hammons of Barbourville; his
dear children, Ricky Lynn Hammons and wife Eryleen of Bimble, Glenda Redmond
of Pineville and Paula Jean Allen and husband Rickie Lee of the Boone Height
Community; six grandchildren; his brothers, Stanley C. Hammons of Turkey
Creek, James R. Hammons and wife Georgia Mae of Jacksonville, Fla. and
Charles Hammons of Richmond; and several dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at the East Barbourville Baptist Church
Thursday, August 3 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Vandy and the Rev. John
Partin officiating. Burial followed in the New Bethel Cemetery at New Bethel.
Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES RANEY, 71, of Orange Park, Florida the husband of Esther Daniels
Raney was born on December 18, 1928 in Louisville to the late Charles Kenny
Raney Sr. and the late Sally Taylor Raney, and passed away Thursday, August
3, 2000 at his home.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Orange Park, Fla. On February 10,
1978 he was united in marriage to Esther Ledford Daniels. He retired from the
U.S. Army as a Warrant Officer, during his 30 year career in the Army he
completed four tours of duty in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife Esther Raney of Orange Park, Fla.; one
step-daughter, Sue Payne and husband Marvin of Girdler; two step-sons, Carl
Daniels and wife Kathy of Jacksonville, Fla., Don Daniels and wife Jeanie of
Barbourville; one sister, Laura Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; and seven
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Monday,
August 7 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Hurla Philips and the Rev. Jimmy Siler
officiating. Burial followed in the Hampton Cemetery at Girdler.
Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DOROTH MCGEORGE, 79, of Barbourville, died Saturday, August 5, 2000 in
Houston, Texas.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Hopper Funeral Home.

HAZEL LAVERNE WILLIS, 81, of Barbourville, died Friday, August 4, 2000 at the
Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Charlie
C. Carty and Lola Beaty Carty, born to them on April 17, 1919 at Jarvis.
She along with her husband, Joe were owners and operators of Joe Willis
Grocery on Old 25E, and she was a member of the Homebound at East
Barbourville Baptist Church. On December 28, 1940 she united in marriage to
Joe E. Willis and to this union a son Larry was born.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Joe E. Willis of Barbourville; her
son, Larry J. Willis and wife Marilyn Sue of London; her sister, Effie Morris
of Fayetteville, NC; her sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and her
special caregivers.
Funeral services were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Monday,
August 7 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Vandy officiating. Burial followed in
the Barbourville Cemetery.
Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LUCILLE RAINES FORTNEY, 97, of West Carrollton, Ohio and formerly of Knox
County, was born on October 10, 1902 in Knox County, to the late Sim Raines
and Mary Stewart Raines. She died Monday, July 31, 2000 at the Walnut Creek
Nursing Home in Kettering, Ohio. She was a member of the Vine Run Baptist
Church at Glenco. On April 30, 1927, she united in marriage to Irvin Fortney.
Survivors include her children, Dan Fortney and wife Mary of West Carrollton,
Ohio, Joann Sowders of West Carrollton, Ohio, Sylvia Hills and husband Larry
of Boca Raton, Fla. and Judy Howe of Florence; three grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one niece; a
sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
Funeral services were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Friday,
August 4 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Partin and the Rev. Ralph Sheaffer
officiating. Burial followed in the Stewart-Abner Cemetery at Artemus.
Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

FLORENCE ELLA DAVE Dave, 73, of Los Angeles, California and formerly of Knox
County, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 in Moreno Valley, California.
Survivors include her daughter, Anita Riley of Moreno Valley, Calif.; two
grandchildren; her sister, Madline Simmons and husband Winston of
Barbourville.
Graveside services were conducted on Saturday, August 5 at 11 a.m. at the
Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

NANNIE MILLS, 83, of Manchester, died Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Laurel
Creek Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Chris Mills of Knox
County.
Survivors include her daughter, Elsie Mills of Manchester; four
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted in the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel on
Wednesday, August 9 at 1 p.m. Burial followed in the Mills Family Cemetery.

PARKER GARLAND, 61, of Bronston, was born on June 8, 1939 in Knox County and
passed away Thursday, August 3, 2000 at his home. He was the husband of Leona
(Smallwood) Garland and the son of the late William and Josephine (Smith)
Garland. He was an electronic technician for Hornsby Oil and was a member of
the Acron Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Garland of Bronston; six daughters, Rhonda
Ramsey and husband Kirby, Donna Cook and husband Jessie, Jr., both of
Somerset, Amanda Phelps and husband Johnny of Georgia, Connie Delph of
Eubank, Alma Cook of Somerset and Virginia Braden of Burnside; three sons,
Bruce Garland and wife Kim, Michael Paul Garland and Kenneth Garland and wife
Charlene, all of Bronston; three sisters, Helen Smith of Cannon, Pauline Low
and husband Junior of Georgia and Judy Acey and husband Earl of Bethelridge;
one brother, Ben Garland and wife Francis, of Bethelridge; 26 grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; and a host of many other relatives and friends to
mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in
Somerset on Sunday, August 6 at 2 p.m. with Brother Atley Atwood and Brother
Richard Ramsey officiating. Burial followed in the Bronston Baptist Cemetery
in Bronston.

EMMA B. JONES, 86, of Moores Hills, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, August 1,
2000 in the Waters Nursing Facility at Batesville. She was the daughter of
Robert and Sudie (Smith) Mills born to them on May 30, 1914 in Barbourville.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Testament Baptist Church. On
September 5, 1934 she united in marriage with Reed Jones.
Survivors include five sons, Oliver Jones of Greensburg, Ind., Lowell Jones
of Holton, Ind., Sam Jones of Columbus, Ind., Ed Jones of Hebron, and Ken
Jones of Moores Hill, Ind.; one daughter, Wilma Abplanalp of Franklin, Ind.;
two brothers, Denver Mills of Dillsboro, Ind. and Grover Mills of Hamilton,
Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 4
at 12 noon in the Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. David Phillips
officiating. Burial followed in the Craven Cemetery in Milan.
Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

TROY WAYNE WILLIS, 27, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000 as a result of an
automobile accident. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County.
He was employed by Virginia Fiberglass Products, Duffield, Va., he was a
member of the Friendship Baptist Church and was a member of the Odd Fellow
Lodge of Jonesville, Va. Survivors include his parents, Ken and Alicia Willis
and Sandy Cowden of Jonesville, Va.; three brothers, Mike Willis, Thomas
Cowden and James Ewing III, all of Jonesville, Va.; one sister, Brianna
Cowden of Jonesville, Va.; grandmother, Vera Willis of Jonesville, Va.;
step-grandmother, Thelma Boyd of Barbourville; several cousins; among other
loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Friday, August 4 at the Ewing Cemetery,
Jonesville. Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Jonesville, was in charge of
arrangements.

JUANITA SUE COX, 34, of Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Billy and Dorothy
Cupp Cox, passed away Monday, August 7, 2000 in Sturgis, South Dakota.

GLADYS M. JOHNSON, 76, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 in
Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Albert Sumpter and Ethel
Ayers Sumpter, born to them on March 20, 1924 in Ferndale. She was the wife
of the late Belvin R. Johnson.
Survivors include her children, R. Terry Johnson and wife Holly, Larry D.
Johnson and wife Phyllis, Sharon F. Johnson, Dennis R. Johnson, Michael A.
Johnson and wife Karen and Gary C. Johnson; six grandchildren; one
great-grandson; brothers, Lester Sumpter, Chester and Wayne Sumpter; sisters,
Myrtle Moore, Pauline Greene, Lois Jarvis and Cloeva Swafford.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, August 4 at 1 p.m. at the T.P.
White and Sons Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio with Dr. David Price
officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Morah Cemetery in the Union Township,
Ohio.
