DEATH CLAIMS JIM SION JOHNSON

The Well Known Educator, Farmer and Churchman Succumbs After a Long Illness At His Home.

Mr. Jim Sion Johnson, after several months illness, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 13, at 5:32 a.m. at this home about two miles south of London on the Fariston pike. He became much worse the first of the week and his children were summoned, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Silvers arrived from Nashville, Tenn., Monday, but though communication was immediately established with his son Rev. Walter Johnson, who is doing missionary work in Mexico, it will be Saturday before he and his family will be able to get here. He rallied Tuesday morning, and remained thoroughly rational until about midnight, only a few hours before his death. Mr. Johnson was born at Langnau in this county on Sept. 1, 1870 a son of John and Sallie Proffitt Johnson. He was educated and taught in the Laurel county schools, and served on the County Board of Education, from which he resigned recently on account of ill health. During the many years that he taught he also farmed and took an active interest in the affairs of!
the Baptist church. Several years ago he and his family moved to the farm on the Fariston pike where he died. He became a Christian in early youth and grew strong in the faith of his Master, and leaves a sweet memory colored especially by his honesty, humility and amiability. He first joined the church at Long Branch near McWhorter. Mr. Johnson was married March 18, 1896, to Miss Vina Harkleroad and she and four children, four grandchildren and three sisters and two brothers survive him. The children are Dr. Walter L. Johnson, of Monterey, Mexico Mrs. Patsy Silvers of Nashville, Tenn., and Mr. Roy and Miss Edith Johnson, who lived with their parents. The grandchildren are Paul and Kathleen Johnson and Roy and Jim Silvers. The brothers and sisters are Mrs. Mose Jody of London, Mrs. Perry Sims of Hamilton, Ohio, Mrs. Lizzie Reams of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Dib Johnson of Hamilton, O.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at the London Baptist church by the pastor, Rev. R. P. Mahon, followed by burial in the Pine Grove cemetery. The active pall bearers are J. B. Reams, B. B. Begley, Fred Lucas, Rufus Yaden, J. M. Feltner, Smith Fouts, O. D. Brock and George Mahon. Honorary: W. J. Jones, D. B. Johnson, S. P. Phillips, John Jody, Wm. Chadwell, J. M. Harrison, J. B. McCowan, B. F. Howard, and G. S. Brock, J. B. Mason, J. J. Taylor, W. R. Dixon, J. A. Karr, Andrew Jackson and J. C. Sparks.
