"Mrs Amanda Jane Crowdus died at her home in Uniontown Wednesday morning,
December 24, 1924, after a two week illness. Mrs Crowdus was 66 years old.
She was born in Marion Co on September 22, 1858, and was a daughter of John
Lyons. She moved to Union County when 14 years old and had lived there for
more than half a century. She was the widow of William Crowdus. Mrs Crowdus
was the mother of ten children, nine of whom are living. With one exception
all of the children were with her in her last illness. The children are:
Mesdames Ida Bradley, Pensacola, FL; Lillie Lampkin, Raywick; Bessie
Ferguson, Chicago, IL; Mary Gip Thompson, Union County; and five sons, Tyler,
Edward, Chester, Robert and Ellis Crowdus, all of Union County. Two
brothers, Bud and Jack Lyons, and one sister, Mrs George T Mills, also
survive. Her daughter, Mrs Lampkin is ill at her home was was unable to
attend the funeral."
Amada Jane Lyons was the daughter of John Lyons and Elizabeth Ann Alvey.
John Lyons was the son of Richard Lyons and Ann "Nancy" Alvey, both of MD,
probably St Mary's Co. Elizabeth Ann Alvey was the daughter of Charles
Alvey and Mary Elizabeth Ray. Charles Alvey was the son of "Betsy" Alvey
and father suspected but undocumented but do not believe he is the son of
"Old" John Alvey as reported by some. Mary Elizabeth Ray is the daughter of
Absolam Ray, Sr and Susannah Mattingly, dau of Leonard Mattingly and Mary
"Polly" Hayden.
Amanda Jane Lyons married William Preston Crowdus on 11/23/1875 in Union Co,
KY (could be Marion Co) and she and her huband are buried in St Agnes
Catholic Cemetery in Union Co, KY. Anyone with something different, please
let me know, thanks
