Mrs. Sarah J. WHITAKER, a most est-able lady died at K-lat Tuesday, aged 62
(? Not sure about the 2) years. She was a sister of Mr. A. T. RANKIN,
of -air, her father, being the late Willie RANKIN, and was the widow of I.
Newton WHITAKER who died years ago. Her surviving children are: John, S.
T., and Benjamin WHITAKER, and Mrs. Emma ASBERRY, all of this county; Mrs.
Nannie GARDNER, wife of Rev. Jo. GARDNER, of Hillsboro, and Carlos M., who
has been a soldier in the Philippines but sailed for San Francisco several
weeks ago. The remains were buried at Benson cemetery Thursday, but in
accordance with her desire the funeral sermon will not be preached until the
arrival of her son Carlos.

Mrs. Dora RANKIN HALEY died at the home of her husband, Mr. Ewalt HALEY, a
prominent farmer of near Cross Roads, in Bourbon county, early yesterday
morning. She had been ill of Tuberculosis for about four years. She and her
husband spent last winter in Florida in the hop of benefiting her health but
she was only slightly improved. Deceased was the daughter of Mr. Asbury T.
RANKIN and was born near Kelat, this county, thirty-five years ago. On
October 5, 1897 she married Mr. Ewalt HALEY and since their marriage they
have lived in Bourbon. She was a member ofd the Mt. Carmel Christian
church and a splendid Christian woman, whose untimely death will be keenly
felt especially by the bereaved husband and fifteen year old daughter,
Jessie, who have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends and
relatives. She is also survived by her father and brothers, Robert, and
Grover, of Berry; James M., of Lexington; Samuel, of Oklahoma; Dr. Geo.
RANKIN, of Shawhan; and Thomas, of Waynesville, Ohio. The funeral services,
conducted by Rev. J. R. JONES, will take place from the Mt. Carmel Christian
Church Saturday afternoon, October 2nd, at 1:30 o'clock. Burial at Battle
Grove cemetery. Pall bearers: Miller LAIL, Frank LAIR, Charles WILSON,
William SPARKS, James ESTES, Noah SMITH.

Mrs. Janie RANKIN STROUSE, wife of Mr. Eli STROUSE, of Lair, died at the
Harrison Hospital of tuberculosis Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock. The
funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Christian
Church, conducted by Rev. J. R. JONES. The burial took place at Battle
Grove Cemetery. Mrs. STROUSE was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Berry
RANKIN, of Berry, and was 28 years of age. She married Mr. Eli STROUSE five
years ago. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church and a consistent
member. She is survived by her husband and one little son, not quite two
years of age; by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Berry RANKIN, of Berry, one
sister, Mrs. Ewalt HALEY, of Bourbon County; and eight brothers, Samuel, of
Oklahoma; Elizie, Thomas J., of Melvin, O., Jas. M., of Lexington, W.
Arthur, Dr. Geo. L., Robt. And Grover, the last six being pallbearers
yesterday afternoon.

RANKIN-A. T. RANKIN, "Berry", o of Harrison county's best known and most
popular citizens, died at his home near Florence, Ky., Sunday, Feb . 22, at
an advanced age. Mr. RANKIN suffered a stroke of paralysis some time ago,
from which he never recovered. For many years he owned and operated a farm
near Berry, where he was numbered among the leading citizens. Of a kindly,
generous nature, liberal and friendly, a man of high ideals, it is not
strange that every man was his friend and that he was welcomed everywhere.
He reared a large family and his sons are of the leading citizens in their
different communities. The death of this excellent man will be mourned by a
wide circle of friends, who extends sympathy to the bereaved family. The
funeral and burial took place at Benson yesterday afternoon, the body being
laid to rest by the side of his wife, who preceded him about ten years.
Mr. RANKIN had sold his farm near Berry a few years and bought near
Florence, where he resided with his son, Grover. Surviving sons are Dr. G.
L. RANKIN of Sawhan; James RANKIN, formerly secretary of the Burley Tobacco
Co., Glencoe; Robert RANKIN, Elgie RANKIN and Grover RANKIN. There are
several surviving daughters. (no names on these)
