I noticed that you listed a Mary Murphy in your posting who was born in Mason
County Kentucky.

My great grandfather, Gardner Smith (born abt 1815) was first married to a
Mary Murphy according to the death certificate of one of his sons. Mary had
three sons by Gardner Smith, who were identified by name on the 1850 Mason
County, KY census.

Thomas Smith born abt 1836,
William S. Smith born abt 1840
George Hardin Smith born 16 Oct 1843, d. 12 Feb 1925.

The only place the name Mary Murphy appears is on the Death Certificate for
George H. Smith.

Another son of Gardner Smith was John S. Smith born 10 Oct 1850, but Gardner
Smith had married Charlotte Sarah Comstock on 17 Dec 1849, so he was not a
son of Charlotte.

Mary Murphy Smith must have died sometime between the birth of George H.
Smith in October 1843 and December 1849 when Gardner remarried.

The 1880 census records shows that Gardner Smith's parents were both born in
Kentucky. Birth records for some of the children show that they lived in
Mason or Lewis Counties, and that Charlotte had lived in Fleming County, KY,
before that time.

Is Patrick Murphy a relative of mine?
