Hi again, Norma!

I'm sorry, I don't have any more information than what I posted. I am looking at microfilm of Mason County deed books at my local Family History Center. I posted the first deed from Tebbs to Willett because it mentioned the name of an enslaved person, and then just followed up with the second deed for informational purposes.

I am looking for an ancestor of my own (John Gillespie) who reportedly was enslaved in Mason/Fleming Counties from the early 1840's until 1864. Enslaved people are usually mentioned in the body of these deeds only by first name, so there is no way to use an index to find someone. In an effort to help others who are searching for enslaved ancestors, I am posting all deeds I come across in my own search that mention the names of slaves.

Also, the names of the Grantor and Grantee and sometimes the mention of their family members in the deeds will be of assistance to board members looking for free ancestors.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. But I'll try to remember to watch for any more deeds that might interest you.

Good luck!

Bobbie
