Gary, I have looked at this Thomas WEBB several times. I do not have a
definitive answer for you, but do have some interesting connections. I have a
William DOWNTAIN who marries a Catherine TIGNOR in Northumberland Co VA 25 Dec
1808. He and family are in Mason Co by 1818. William's brother-in-law (married
to his sister) is Edward WEBB. They both served in the War of 1812 in the
same unit. I have not proven parentage on Edward who was born c 1785 in
Northumberland Co. However, here are the WEBB tax listings for Northumberland Co for
1800;

Webb, ThomasNorthumberland1801PersonalA11
Webb, WilliamNorthumberland1801PersonalB08

Edward named his oldest known child William (b c 1812) but it is my belief
that he named his eldest child Thomas. Based on ages, it is possible that
Thomas is Edwards grandfather and William is his father, but again, I have no
proof.
Edward is a widower by 1822 and dies c 1826. Two of his three sons make
their way to Missouri by the early 1840's, but I have a wealth of information that
indicates they spent a good deal of time in the Mason area on the way west.
Once in MO, Downtain's, Webb's and Humphries (children of Edward's only
daughter Nancy) make their way to Saline-Johnson-Lafayette Co MO areas. This is a
family that in large part stayed in touch, and moved where there was family.
It is possible that your Thomas is connected to this family. If we can find
the estate records of the William, Thomas, Winnie and John who are in the 1800
Northumberland Tax lists, it will go a long way to solving the mystery.
