Malcolm Noble

Malcolm Arlie Noble, 83, of Hazard, died Sunday, July 31 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

He was a self employed truck driver for many years, and the son of the late Andy Noble and the late Deliah Allen Noble. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cinda Hudson Noble.

He is survived by his son, Larry Noble and wife Deborah; grandchildren Chris Noble and Chasity Noble; great-grandchildren Kristin Bowen, Trenton Brock and Trevor Brock along with a host of family and friends.

Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family received friends on Tuesday, August 2. Services followed with Eldon Miller officiating. Interment was at Noble Cemetery in Rowdy.

Kelly Ray Combs

Kelly Ray Combs, 83, died Wednesday, August 3 at his home in Hardburly.

He is survived by sons Paul R. Combs of Hardburly and James M. McCllen of Stanton, Ky.; daughter Judy D. Walker of Bulan; one granddaughter, one step granddaughter and one great-great granddaughter.

Visitation will be Friday, August 5 at 6 p.m. at the Hardburly Baptist Church. Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 6. Burial will be at the Hardburly Cemetery.

Brashear-Callahan Funeral Home of Viper is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Spencer

Pearl Spencer, 75, of Lower Second Creek, passed away on Tuesday, August 2 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center.

He was the son of the late James Spencer and the late Linda Miller Spencer, and was a lifelong resident of Perry County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Linda Spencer, and a host of brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his special friend, JoAnna Kasee of Clayhole, Ky.; sister Lois Fugate of Lower Second Creek; special niece Ivory Fugate of Lower Second Creek and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A private graveside service was held on Thursday, August 4 at the Fugate Cemetery at Lower Second Creek.

Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard was in charge of arrangements.

Denny Fugate

Denny Fugate, 42, departed this life on Monday, August 1 at the Hazard ARH medical center.

He was born in Hazard, the son of the late Rufus Fugate and the late Marie Fugate. He was also a lifelong resident of Perry County and was also preceded in death by sisters Sallie Vaughn Griffie and Patricia Fugate McIntosh.

He is survived by his son, Denny Alamander Fugate of Willard; daughters Lakisha Renee Fugate, Deidra Lynn Fugate and Kimberly Regina Fugate, all of Willard; brothers Rufus Fugate, Jr. and wife Gloria of Homosassa, Florida and Alamander Fugate and wife Diana of Bonnyman; sisters Lillie Faye Joseph and Deloris Flannery and husband Mike, all of Brooksville, Florida; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Services were conducted on Thursday, August 4 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard with J.L. McIntosh and Larry Gross officiating. The burial followed in the Fugate Family Cemetery located at Lower Second Creek.

Josephine Cornett

Josephine Cornett, 63, of Hazard, died Monday, August 1 at the Hazard ARH medical center.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Cornett and the late Delphia Eversole Cornett.

She is survived by daughters Vivian Caudill and Victoria Begley; son Robert Luther Standafer; sisters Helen Robinson, Ruth Ann McDaniel and Mary Rose Barker; brothers Willie Cornett and Curtis Cornett along with 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard where the family received friends on Wednesday, August 3. Services were held on Thursday, August 4 with James Cornett and Billy Ray Eversole officiating. Interment was at Ben Cornett Cemetery at Viper.

Robert Sanders

Robert Arnold "Chuck" Sanders, 83, of Chavies, died Wednesday, August 3 at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tn.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Chavies 1st Church of God for 31 years, Shriners for 45 years, a Mason for 58 years and the Eastern Star for 25 years.

He was the son of the late Gabbard Sanders and the late Eddie Mowpin Sanders, and was also preceded in death by sisters Georgie Noble, Mary Lou Campbell and Gracie Sanderson; brothers Luther Sanders, Woody Mowpin, Tommy Sanders and Lucien Sanders; and grandchild Brian Dean Carroll.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Sanders; daughters Carlotta Sanders and Ginger Carroll; sons Anthony Sanders and wife Kaye and Robert Sanders; brother Minter Mowpin; grandchild Jessica Leanette Carroll; godchild Jamie Melton and husband Josh; great-godchildren Shasta, Kaylee and Breanna Melton; step-grandchildren Dustin Bowling and wife Becky and Megan Sims and husband D.J.; step great-grandchildren Jailyn Sims and Madyson Bowling; and his beloved pet Oliver.

Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 5. Services will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 with Rev. Tommy Williams, Rev. Eddie Williams, Rev. Paul Hensley and Rev. Teddy Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Johnson Cemetery in Chavies.

Marion Strunk

Marion Glenn Strunk, 56, departed this life on Saturday, July 30 at the Hazard ARH medical center.

He was born in Hazard, the son of Sarah Feltner Baker and the late Herman Strunk. He was a lifelong resident of Perry County and was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hughes.

He is survived by his mother, Sarah Baker of Combs; girlfriend Christine Hughes of Combs; brothers Jackie Strunk, Rex Strunk, and Bobby Strunk, all of Combs, and Charles Burton, Walter Burton, Jimmy Burton and Gary Burton, all of Michigan; sisters Gladys Coots of Combs; Janet Strunk of Combs; Brenda Couch of Yerkes and Betty Burton of Middletown, Ohio; along with 11 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 2 at 1 p.m. at the Combs Baptist Church with Kenny Smith officiating. The burial will follow in the Combs Cemetery at Combs. Visitation will be at the Church on Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m.

Vernon Coots

Vernon "Tommie" Coots, 71, of Viper, died Friday, July 29 at the hospice care center in Hazard.

He was a retired coal miner for Southeast Coal and the son of the late Wilson Coots and the late Fannie Jones Coots. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Juanita Coots; brothers Castle, Hershel, Lilly "Bill" and Willie Coots; and sisters Della, Virgie and Bessie.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Coots; daughters Charlotte Faye Combs and husband Randall, Betty Jean Sumner, Carolyn Sue Porter and husband Don and Shirley Coots and husband Lonnie; sons Bobby Ray and wife Marie Coots, Wayne Coots and wife Lucy and Randy Coots; sister Melissa "Siss" Holbrook; brother Burnett Coots along with 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of family and friends.

Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family received friends on Sunday, July 31 with John Conn officiating. Services were held on Monday, August 1 with Duane Allen officiating. Interment was at Mack Lewis Cemetery in Viper.

Franklin Rose

Franklin D. Rose, 68, departed this life on Thursday July 28 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

He was born in Pike County, the son of the late Fletcher Rose and the late Myrtle Little Rose, and was also preceded in death by granddaughter Marsha Conner, one brother and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Kay Rose of Combs; sons Carson James Rose of Combs, Franklin D. Rose, Jr. of Florida, Ty Shane Rose of Florida and Fabian Rose of Virginia; daughters Melissa Rose of Florida, Tammy Spinks of Herrin, Illinois and Janice Rose of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; brothers James Rose of Virginia, Ira Rose of Harold, Ky., Jimmy Rose of South Carolina and Dudley Rose of Virginia Beach; sister Tina Rose of Flintwood, Virginia; along with 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a memorial service conducted on Thursday, August 4 at 4 p.m. at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m.

Jeffrey Everidge

Jeffrey Everidge, 45, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, July 24 at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

He attended Hazard Community College and Berea College where he obtained his bachelors degree in psychology. He was the son of the late Frances "Dood" Everidge, and was also preceded in death by his sister and grandparents, Beckham and Mary Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Everidge, and dog Sleepy.

Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Ben Cornett Cemetery located at Viper.

Big Virgil Combs

Big Virgil G. Combs, 70, of Rowdy, passed away Thursday, July 28 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

He was the son of the late Ben Combs and the late Gracie Combs, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Combs, and brothers Bill and Bob Combs.

He is survived by daughters Connie Jean Couch of Busy, Beulah Mae Johnson of Busy, Janice Faye Neace of Ned and Lisa Combs Hurt of Ned; sons Ova Wayne Combs of Hazard and Tommy Combs and Randy "Bo" Combs, both of Ned; sister Arietta Bailey of Ohio along with 21 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, family and friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends after 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 at the Clear Fork Free Pentecostal Church of God. Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 31 with Juanita Combs and Hobert Gwin officiating. Interment will be at Tenmile Family Cemetery.

Bonnie Jean Baker

Bonnie Jean Baker, 79, the daughter of the late Jerome and Alice Farler, departed this life at her residence in Chavies on Wednesday, July 27

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Craft and Linda Pence, both of Perry County; grandchildren Dave Pence, Barbara Pence, Cynthia Nolan, Amber Craft, Jason Craft, Caleb Craft, Rachel Craft and Jordan Craft, and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Eli. Funeral services will be held on Friday July 29 at the Engle Walker Funeral Home Chapel on in Hazard at 2 p.m. with Merrill David Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Ben Cornett Cemetery in Viper. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the funeral on Friday, July 29 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
