August 1879:
1. Judge DUNN's opinion, delivered at Richmond, Mo., denying the
petition for an injunction filed by the Hannibal road.
5. Arrest of Dr. James M. Prichard THORNDON on confession of murder
in Colorado.
9. First wrestling match between Thiebauld BAUER and Andre CHRISTOL
undecided.
10. Wrestling match between WHISTLER and MURPHY won by the former.
12. BAUER wins the undecided match with CHRISTOL. The school board
investigate the principal of the Lincoln school.
14. Six hundred white and black excursionists arrive from the South.
15. The steamer Dacotah crushes her side against the bridge pier.
16. Review of the criminal history of Jackson county. T. H. BARNETT
appointed superintendent of the Dallas and Wichita road.
20. Clement WILLIAMS, colored, killed by a stone falling from the Harris
building. W. K. BELL robbed the American express company of
$6,500.
21. Dr. SHOEN, of Westport, assaulted E. H. BARTON with sulphuric
acid. DICKINSON Bros'. livery stable burned.
22. J. A. DuBOIS settles with his Buffalo creditors. James BURNS and
Mike DOBBINS, of Wyandott county, exchange nine shots and both
are killed.
27. John RAGAN, of Westport, attempts suicide. Commencement of the
trial of Plin WHITE, alias H. L. WHITE, for obtaining goods under
false pretences, at Independence.
29. Short description of new business houses and residences. Plin
WHITE sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. Commencement
of Erastus JOHNS' trial for murder in the second degree.
30. Erastus JOHNS acquitted. Dennis DOHERTY seriously wounded by
William McCULLOUGH. History of Daniel BOONE in Kansas.
