A LAD'S FALL FROM A HORSE.

Paul GETTY, 9 years old, a son of James F. GETTY, state
senator from Wyandotte county, was thrown from a horse
he was riding yesterday morning, suffering a fracture of the
skull. His condition is critical.

The boys in the neighborhood had been taking turns riding
a horse belonging to A. S. BROADDUS of 720 Parallel avenue,
Kansas City, Kas. The horse is one used by Mr. BROADDUS
at the stock years. The bridle rein slipped from Paul's hand
and to prevent himself falling he caught hold of the horse's mane.
This frightened the animal and it ran west on Parallel to Seventh
street, where the boy was thrown to the pavement.

Paul was carried to the GETTY home at 712 Parallel avenue.
Dr. George M. GRAY, who attended him, said last night that the
boy's skull was fractured near the base of the brain and that the
chances of his recovery were slight. Paul is the younger of the
senator's two sons.
