RE:Beyond Jacques and Marie De La Berge
Some months ago i threatened to hire a french genealogist to trace Jacques
furthur into history....still saving my pennies for the exhorbitantly
expensive rascals.
I did send for and received from the Hall of Names the "Ancient History of
the Distinguished Surname Laberge" Interesting stuff......some of which i
relate as follows..........
They found the family name in Gascony, where the family was established at
Labege (accent over the e \ ), a village in the department of Haute-Garonne
in the District of Toulouse (in the southern part of France near the
Pyrenees).
They state that the family can be traced back to Adam de Berghes who fought
with Admiral Jean de Vienne in the Hundred Years War, helping the Scottish
in their battle against the English (1385).
The seigniory (lordship) of de Berge was established in 1650 for Renaud
d'Avesne... Notable among the family was Francois Berge. a colonel, who was
registered under Napolean July 15, 1810
They then go on to discuss Robert de La Berge....Louis Berge in
Louisiana(1718)....Jacques Berge in Pennsylvania(1864..and Charles Laberge
in Canada (1864)
The purpose of relating the above is to determine whether you or any others
on the mailing list have any furthur information of the Laberge history
beyond Jacques....... Also has anyone else delve deeper into the Hall of
Names? ...or has any discreet information that we can share.
I will volunteer to organize all such information and to provide an updated
report on a semiannual basis.
The variations in names they report are..... Laberge, La Berge. de Berge, de
la Berge, Desberges, de Berghes, and Berge (Labarges please note that they
do not mention you guys at all). Some time ago one of this group was in
Columby-Sur-Thaon and found the name Berge on some of the
tombstones...interesting connection....eh?
If anybody has any information it can be mailed to me at 8 Pepper Lane,
Loudonville, New York 12211 (518-4369819 after 6:30pm.....
518-4587112 days....fax 518 4581879) or online
