Subject: [LACALDWE-L] The New LADATA mailing list
Date: Mon, 10 Aug 1998 07:43:26 EDT
Hello everyone:
Just wanted to take a moment to clarify the new Louisiana informational
mailing list that is available. If you are new to the list, please read 3
times! :)
Bobby Edwards (the state coordinator) has set up a mailing list "for the use
of the parish archivists" for those online "angels" that enters the ton of
data like Peggy does for Winn Parish, Laura, Gatha, and several others do for
more than one parish.
It is the "ONE" address that ANYONE can use to send the data they have to
submit, that needs to go one or even several parishes.
In the subject line you put: name of parishes [such as Winn, Caldwell, St.
Helena] and that lets the PACs (Parish Archive Coord.) know to pull that file!
Just that simple! No sending 3 e-mails to 3 different parishes. It also lets
anyone working those parishes know that data is coming through FOR those
parishes!
ONE BIG RULE: No queries. etc.
Anyone can subscribe to the mailing list, but ONLY those people (like Gregg,
Kathy, Karen, Lloyd, etc) that is SENDING data to the archives are suppose to
post. [If you don't want to subscribe you can visit the archives of that
parish to see what has been posted!] And for post listed for the parishes you
don't want: hit the delete key!
Also: this list frees up our parish mailing lists for their original purpose:
to post messages and queries about the parish and/or in the case of Winn -
about the genealogy organization.
To subscribe: send the message "subscribe" to
<>. You can also subscribe to the digest form by
using a "D" instead of the "L", but you can't see the subject line without
opening the entire digest.
It is real easy to hit the delete key on this list because of the requirement
of having the parish in the subject line... and the fact you will see "LADATA"
on the subject line also!!!
example {LADATA-L: Winn, Caldwell, Rapides}
Please, please, please: ONLY data such as cemeteries, bible, marriages,
wills, etc. to be put into the online archives of your choice is to be sent.
NO QUERIES, etc.
Annette Womack
NOTE: I was sending this to the Winn & Caldwell Parish mailing list and
decided to include LaData list for "new" subsubscribers who don't really know
what the list is for and may think it is a general mailing list. WRONG WRONG
WRONG <grin> If you want to subscribe to the general Louisiana "mailing list"
set up for queries, etc. contact me and I'll tell you how.
