Tom and All,

It was bugging me that I didn't know what "partition" meant.....so I
called the Clerk's Office and found out :o)

Partition (today's definition) means that a person died without a will
but had some land. Normally, each heir (widow and children) would get
an undivided share of the land. However, in a partition, each heir
agrees to divide the land into specific plots....rather than leaving it
undivided.

Sooo....Tom--Susan's partition probate packet should at least name her
heirs (provided that is really what documents that packet contains and
that is what the law said to do back then).

Also--does anyone need info on how to get documents from the Claib. Psh
Clerk of Court's office? Their phone number is
(318)-927-9601....address PO Box 330, Homer, Louisiana 71040. The lady
on the phone told me that normally if someone writes to them for a
document request, they will look up the documents first to verify they
are there. Then they will send you a letter stating how much money it
will cost you.....then you mail them money....then they mail you the
documents. But I can tell you that according to the signs posted on the
walls.....uncertified copies are $1.00 for the first page and 50 cents
for each additional page of multipaged documents.....and certified
documents are $2.50.....soooo to cut down on your cost, you might want
to specify that you only want "uncertified" copies!

Hope this helps everyone's searches!
Kel
