Jerry,

I love ancestry.com. Hooked me up with lot's of distant cousins, and I got a lot
of data. I am not sure that the census index they have are necessarily complete.
All they did is digitize books they found. So I hope it is possible that my
Robert Russell/Russel will appear in a more complete index. Possibly in a nearby
county instead?? The evidence for Claiborne is the following birth info (of his
children) from the IGI

Thomas F. Russell was born in Lisbon, Claiborne, LA Nov 11, 1858.
James P C Russell was born in Lisbon, Claiborne, Feb 16, 1860.
Martha Ella Russell was born in Lisbon, Claiborne, LA Dec 10, 1862.
Muskogee Amogene Russell was born in Lisbon, Claiborne, Jan 13, 1865.
Judith Lilla Russell was born in Lisbon, Claiborne, LA Sep 20, 1866.
John Edgar Russell was born in Millwood, Collin, TX Nov 27, 1869.

(there were other children). I also have James' birth as September, so it would
be exciting to know whether the census taker found him. I did found the family in
Collin Co., TX in the 1870 census

There is also a land patent for 313 acres which starts "whereas Robert Y Russell
of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana" describing land, which I can't tell where it is
(NE corner of NW corner of this that and the other thing), in "township 20, north
of range 4 west" sold out of an office in Monroe, LA. The patent was signed (by
Pres Buchanon) July 1, 1859
