Here is a brief history of the 5th La. Cav.

5th Cavalry Regiment [also called 4th Regiment] was formed in March, 1864, by redesignating the 3rd (Pargouad's) Louisiana Cavalry Regiment. The unit served in the Trans-Mississippi Department and saw light action within its boundaries of Louisiana. During the spring of 1865 it disbanded. Colonel Richard L. Capers was in command.
