I'm looking for MALCOLM M. CURRIE, b. abt. 1841in SC or NC, or MS and d.
1889/1890 in Tilden, Avoyelles, LA, who resided in Amite Co., MS most of
his early life and then practiced medicine in Concordia, LA. His
children born between 1869 - 1885 are unknown to me except for two. My
grandfather, WAYNE HUFF CURRIE (1885 Gloster, Amite, MS-1919 Dyersburg,
Dyer, TN) and his older brother JOHNSON EDWARD CURRIE (1870 Gloster,
Amite, MS-1947 West Monroe, Quachita, LA ). An article from Louisiana:
Comprising Sketches of Parishes, Towns, Events, Institutions, and
Persons, Arranged in Cyclopedic Form (volume 3), pp. 605-606. Edited by
Alce Fortier, Lit.D. Published in 1914, by Century Historical
Association, about Johnson Edward Currie mentions that his father,
Malcolm, was living in Concordia, LA where he practiced medicine. It
also states that the mother (who is Frances Day Henderson Currie) died in
1905. Another source, GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN "Miss. Enterprise" 10 Dec.
1890: Died Friday, 5 Dec, 1890 at residence of WE Behrens, Dr. MM CURRIE,
age 49 yrs. & 9 mo. Resided in Tilden, La, formerly of Amite. Survived by
wife & 6 children.
Concordia and Avoyelles parishes border one another. I don't have any
information about W. E. Behrens. Was he a family friend or a patient of
Dr. M. M. Currie?
I've looked in the online cemetery listings for Concordia Parish, LA. I
didn't see any CURRIE's. As far as I know, Frances Day Currie, wife of
Malcolm M. Currie, wasn't buried in the family cemetery in Amite Co., MS.
This leads me to believe that she must be buried in Louisiana.
If anyone has access to Comprising Sketches of Parishes, Towns, Events,
Institutions, and Persons, Arranged in Cyclopedic Form Edited by Alce
Fortier, Lit.D. Published in 1914, by Century Historical Association.,
would you check to see if there are any other CURRIE's?
Malcolm and Fannie had 6 six children, 5 boys and 1 girl.
M. A. son born 1869, MS
Johnson Edward 04 AUG 1870, Gloster, Amite, MS, - d. May 05, 1947 West
Monroe, Quachita, LA
N. F. son born 1873, MS
M. E. dau. born 1875, MS
G. J. son born 1877, MS
Wayne Huff b. Gloster, Amite, MS, 1885 - d. November 27, 1919, Dyersburg,
Dyer, TN
Fannie had a daughter, N. Henderson born 1866, MS, from her first
marriage to Robert Henderson in 1864 in Amite Co., MS, son of John
Henderson and Arzelia Dixon. I have no further info about N. Henderson.
