Here is a lengthy example in follow-up to my note to Sonya and the group on
postings with new or surprizing tidbits:
----------------------
A couple years back, frustrated with my lack of progress on my own Lacy
genealogy, I pondered what to do next. Options included lauching out again
to scour for new leads. One option seemed most unattractive, going back over
old papers, again, one's that I already had on hand.
An hour into my trek through dusty boxes, I was stunned. How had I ever
missed it?
In an old deed from Brunswick County, VA, I had only paid attention to the
main point listed on it, which was the name of the father of my Philemon.
But, at the very bottom of the deed was listed the name WILLIAM DANIEL as a
witness to the deed, included with a few additional names. Wow! That was
possibly the father of the wife of another Philemon Lacy, whom I had never
been able to make a connection. His name was William Daniel. This one
possibly had property bordering my Philemon's land, according to this deed.
How had I ever missed that important "tid-bit"? I had looked over that
thing at least a dozen times and talked with just as many family
researchers. We all had missed it.
Now, I had my new avenue to follow and I didn't have to leave my home to
find it.
---------------------------------
What is the point here?:
1. Don't take your acquired papers and family info for granted.
2. Lay stuff aside for awhile, and then go back and re-read it.
3. Postings like this are great for the group spirit.
4. Take the time to communicate here. It's a great investment!
