My great-grandmother, Emily Ann Wiggs Cooper, (Abigail's great-granddaughter)
was blind only the last twelve years of her life. That would fit with
retinitis pigmentosa.
My grandmother tells me that one of her great-uncles, a grandchild to Abigail
Lacy Wiggs miraculously received his eyesight back one day. Her memory is
failing at 90 so I have been unable to find out any details. I don't know
if this was a temporary condition with him or what.
As I said before, there has not been any blindness since my
great-grandmother's generation, but my father has had to have lazer surgery
twice for torn retinas.
