My family and I were at Trim Castle June 2002. While some is left in ruins,
the keep has been restored somewhat. You can tour the keep with a guide. You
enter by an exterior stair to the main door on the second level and then use
the original steep winding stairs to go upward. They have built a translucent
roof over it and where interior wood floors have disappered, they built
walkways. At the top level in the Chapel, you can see a small scale replica of the
castle as it looked upon completion. You also can see the stone alter with
two small water basins in stone, one for the priest to wash his hands and one
for holy water. The building that houses the deck to the canal is intact and
very interesting; this is how they came and went and received supplies. Most
of the exterior wall is intact and you enter the castle by way of the original
gateway. You can see nearby the Abbey the Lacey's built and I have a copy of
the tale of Evelyn deLacy and her love. I don't consider it a ruin or pile of
stones, but a home of long gone by possible family members. I have several
photos and could scan them and send to anyone on the list if they are
interested. I'm still trying to tie my Lacy branch to others and it will happen.
