Joyce and all,
I am sure that you are talking about Henry Ladd who I have as the s/o
Harbard and Susan Garrett Ladd.
I have Henry as married to Virginia ______ first. Now I know that it was
Virginia Black and then she was the 2nd wife of Henry. From the census
(below) it appears that Henry married E.J. McCool first and then Virginia.
Several of us have speculated that Henry was the father of Barry Ladd and
now with your information it pretty much nails it down.
I have Harbard's father as Benjamin Francis Ladd who came to Christian
county, KY in about 1805 from Lancaster District, SC.
Records show that Benjamin came to Christian County about 1805. Records of
Lancaster District of SC record Benjamin there until 1800. This family
group is unproven and has been made by study of later records of Christian
and Trigg county, KY. Benjamin d. in Carroll County, TN and left a will
there. He also left a will in Christian County, KY. I believe that Benjamin
is a product of the second generation of Va. Ladds' - The link that John &
Mary (Crew) Ladd is the parents of Benjamin is not proven and temporary;
and only done for convenience of future research.
1850 Caldwell Ky. Census

Eliza J. 20 F Ill.
Note: Henry Ladd m. E.J. McCord 11 June, 1850 Caldwell Co., Ky.
2nd Note: That should be E.J. Mc Cool according to your information.
House # 328
Harbard Ladd 46 M Farmer S.C.
Susan J. " 42 F Ky.
George W." 19 M Farmer Ky.
John W. " 18 M Farmer Ky.
Martha A." 15 F Ky.

Andrew J." 5 M Ky.
David " 3 M Ky.
Joseph Barbour 6/12 M Ky.
Note: Benjamin Ladd m. Mary Robertson 1 Oct. 1861 in Caldwell Co., Ky.
Then on the 1860 Christian county KY census I find:

Subject: [LADD-L] Thomas Ladd
I am trying to learn more about my grandmother's Ladd family that came from
Caldwell and Trigg couties in Kentucky. The information I have is mostly
inherited and without documentation. The earliest information I have is as
follows: Henry E Ladd was born 5 Nov 1924 in Caldwell County, KY and died
1895 at Urich, Henry County, MO. Henry was apprently married twice. First
to Virginia Black 11 Jan 1850 in Kentucky . I understand that she was the
mother of my great grandfather Thomas who married Ann Eliza Overbey 24 Dec
1873 in Trigg County, KY. Henry also married Eliza Jane Mc Cool and had
Tennison and Barry. There may or may not have been other children but I am
not aware of them.
I will be most grateful for any and help with this line.
