Two New Orleans area experts will speak at Le Comit des Archives de la Louisiane's annual meeting. Florence Jumonville, Chair of the Louisiana Special Collections Department at the University of New Orleans, will give a presentation entitled "Yesterday's Lawsuit, Today's History: Using the Archives of the Supreme Court of Louisiana in Research." Genealogists often do not realize the wealth of information that can be found in court records. And, the Supreme Court records can help fill in gaps when local court records have been lost.
Well-known genealogist Albert Robichaux, Jr., will also speak at the meeting. His presentation is entitled "Researching Your Ancestors in France," a popular topic among Louisiana genealogists. Robichaux has authored numerous books on Acadian and Louisiana genealogical research.
The meeting will be held Sunday, September 23rd, at the Louisiana State Archives on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the meeting starts at 1:45. It is free to current members. Non-members may join at the door for $15.
