Surname: McNeil
-------------------------
While I am not descended from your Elbert McNeil of Franklin Parish, Louisiana,
it seems like I came across an Elbert McNeil in the early census records
of Wilkinson County, Mississippi. People crossed back and forth between
MS and LA back then. I am not sure about the first name as I cannot find
my notes, but at any rate, I do remember it said he was from North Carolina.
A great many McNeils settled in the mountains of North Carolina. There
is a book called "Kinfolks" that tells about these people. I believe this
book is still at the George Armstrong Library in Natchez, MS. There were
also some McNeils in the early records of Adams Co., Ms and Concordia Pr.
La. These McNeils went to Texas. Hope this helps. We have a McNeil Reunion
in Natchez every year on the Sunday after Father's Day in June. You would
be welcome to attend.
